Eclosion: New Work from NWAA
New Wilmington Art Association promotes exposure to contemporary art theory and practices through its unique guerrilla model. NWAA inhabits the raw storefront spaces on Market Street-literally on the “fringe” of Wilmington’s commercial district. During the inaugural festival of Fringe Wilmington, NWAA continues its practice by presenting Eclosion. The theme of this group exhibition is transformation-the transformation of downtown Wilmington, NWAA’s transformative activities, or the recent transformation in our political and economic atmospheres. This subject is evident in the work selected for the show and offers the opportunity to discuss the intriguing and thought-provoking art produced both locally and internationally today.
Art:21 Access ‘09
For October’s third Thursday closing event, NWAA will participate in Art:21 Access ‘09— an international screening initiative of Season 5 of Art:21—Art in the Twenty-First Century. On October 15th from 6-9pm, NWAA will screen Episode 3: Transformation and Episode 4: Systems. Transformation includes interviews with Yinka Shonibare MBE, Cindy Sherman, and Paul McCarthy. Each of these three artists observe, satirize, or reinvent characters from literature, history, art history, science, and popular culture. Julie Mehretu, John Baldessari, Kimsooja, and Allan McCollum are included in Systems, which examines work that conveys networks, structures, mapping, or information exchange today.
